The town of Canterbury lies in the district of the same name which encompasses both Herne Bay and the beautiful seaside resort of Whitstable. So, whether you are a hen party who likes historic towns, old fashioned English style pubs, or a stroll down the beach, Canterbury is the place to go.
Canterbury itself is gorgeous and an absolute must for history fans. The town is most famous for its Cathedral that dates from the sixth century and has been on the pilgrim’s trail ever since then. It has been the inspiration for authors like Chaucer, who wrote the aptly named Canterbury Tales, and it has been the focus of intrigue in its long history (most notoriously the slaying of Thomas Becket in 1170). The town itself offers more historical gems like the ancient ruins of the Castle and the ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church that form Canterbury’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Walking the city is thirsty work, so for those hen parties who are partial to cake and an indulgent afternoon tea, there are a host of places to munch some well-earned calories, from the quaint Moat Tea Rooms and Tiny Tim’s Tearoom to the lush Patisserie Valerie. For those who prefer their calories in liquid form, then Canterbury, a university town, has plenty to offer a hen party.
